Liposuction, lipoplasty, lipectomy or liposculpture all refer to the same technique: the surgical removal of isolated pockets of fat that won't go away with a healthy diet or exercise. These fat deposits are frequently due to genetics and surgical removal is often the only way to get rid of them for good.
NorthEast Plastic Surgery have a team of highly skilled surgeons performing plastic and cosmetic procedures, including liposuction in Melbourne and Brisbane.
Liposuction can be performed on any area of the body where there are areas of excess fat. It is possible to have between one and five different areas treated at one time, although your surgeon (Dr Sugitha Seneviratne or Mr Patrick Tansley) will advise you on the most effective treatment schedule that takes into account desired results, level of risk and cost.
The most commonly treated areas are:
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic administered by a Specialist Anaesthetist such that the patient is asleep throughout the surgery. At NorthEast Plastic Surgery, the Surgeons use a Microaire device which uses the "jackhammer" action to loosen the fat tissue. The ease of fat removal reduces damage to the surrounding tissues, improves aesthetic outcome and recovery and also reduces downtime.
Liposuction slims and shapes particular areas of the body, smoothing contours and provides a toned physique. The best candidates for liposuction are healthy men and women who aren't significantly overweight and who have good skin tone and elasticity. Liposuction is not a weight loss remedy, or a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. The results are permanent as long as you don't gain weight after your surgery.
